I finally got mom away from the computer long enough to make an entry.
She started playing World of Warcraft about this time last year. Haven't been able to pry her away from the computer since. It's like they're one entity.
But now i've got my LJ back.
Lots of changes since my last post. I'm living with mom at the grandparents' house. It's kinda cramped, but i've got more room to run around in general. And Cousins Tricksie and Hallie are fun to play with. Tricksie's a stick in the mud most of the time. But Hallie and I like to chase each other about the big room.
And I even get to go outside! There's a porch with screen around it so I can watch birds, but nothing can get in at me. Suits me just fine. I enjoy getting out there for some fresh air.
I think I see mom returning. She was typing something before she left. Guess she's coming back to finish.
Now that I remembered my password i'll be posting more often.

The holiday was very stressful. I've been sick on the rug several times this week, in fact. All the traveling and strange people...it's a bit much for me.
The grandparents had a nice big sock for me amongst the family gifts. Inside was a bag of my favorite treats, a new catnip toy, and a can of very expensive catfood. Mom's put the catfood away for a special occasion. I think i'd rather eat it now.
From mom I got a new feather-bungee toy and three orange rattle-balls. I do so love playing with those rattle-balls. Many a time i've woken mom in the night by batting a ball across the rug and chasing after it.
Mom attempted to bake cookies for the family. I don't think it worked out very well...although I don't have much of a sweet-tooth so i'm not much judge of such things. Apparently the cookies were just slightly softer than hard tack and rather salty. As they're supposed to be sugar cookies the salty flavor is a bit odd.
Turns out grandmom gave mom a bag of all-purpose flour that already had stuff added to it. Mom, not realizing the difference between this and plain old flour, followed the cookie recipe as listed and added salt. She also didn't quite have enough butter (she was about 1/4 cup short) so there wasn't enough moisture in the dough. Well, mom baked her cookies, burnt on batch, and scorched the bottoms of most of the rest.
The result is salty brick-cookies. Luckily it's not a total loss. We discovered that they're actually quite good when dipped/soaked in hot cocoa. Granddad jokingly called them 'dipping biscuits' while the rest of the family calls them "Leiko's Brick Cookies". I don't think mom's overly amused at this. She's actually a pretty good cook...usually.
And now Aunt Dusk and Uncle Goat are coming over, so i'd best lick my whiskers and wash my paws. Gotta look good for company, you know.

Mom made me a new icon. She snapped a photo as I was yawning after a nap. Damn humans and they're technological gadgets. *grumbles about annoying camera use*

Things have settled down some lately. Mom's still home all day. She's been doing art and crafts and jewelry all week. She got really upset when I tried to play with the digital camera's transfer cable. I don't think she appreciated my turning off her computer. Honestly, I think she spends too much time on that thing anyway. She should be doing more important things....like feeding me.

Mom took my temperature tonight because i've been lethargic and off my food. I'm moving stiffly...don't feel good at all. I've got a slight fever...103.4F. 103F is "high normal" for cats.
Mom said i'm going to the vet tomorrow morning. Not looking forward to it. All those noisy dogs and the smell of medicine...yick. I bet they either send me home for bed-rest, or put me on an antibiotic. I really don't want to go. I just want to stay curled up on my bed, sleeping.

Mom cooked supper tonight. She's pretty good at tossing together a tasty meal in less than an hour. I'm not big on fish, but even my nose was twitching while the tilapia baked.
She let me take notes on the recipe, so I thought i'd share it.
If you cook the brownies and fish back-to-back, it takes just a bit over an hour. And, of course, this version covers two servings of fish. At 1/4 cup sliced mushrooms for each additional tilapia fillet, and the cooking time shouldn't be affected much. If in doubt, add an extra five minutes per two fillets...but keep an eye on them.

Teriyaki Tilapia with Mushrooms
Ingredients:
2 tilapia fillets
1 cup sliced mushrooms
Teriyaki Sauce
Directions:
Thaw tilapia fillets. Pre-heat oven to 350F. Cover baking sheet in aluminum foil. Place fillets on baking sheet. Sprinkle sliced mushrooms over fillets. Pour teriyaki sauce over fish and 'shrooms. Make sure fillets are well coated, but don't flood the pan. Cover with aluminum foil. Place in oven and bake for 25-30 minutes. Remove from oven and serve immediately, for the fish will cool rather quickly.
Recommended Side Dishes:
* Instant Mashed Potatoes (see box for directions...best if you add a little milk for creamier texture)
* Canned Green Beans (microwave for 2 minutes)
* Biscuits or Crescent Rolls (any type will do, provided you warm them before serving the meal, but I prefer the kind that come in the little round tubes that take 13 minutes to bake in the oven...you can just put this sort into the oven alongside your fish when there's 13 minutes left on the timer)
Recommended Dessert
* Chocolate Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream (use one modest-size brownie square with one scoop of ice cream atop it; cook brownies before the fish dish; follow directions on box of brownie mix)

Mom finally got Internet at our new home. I was starting to worry about her. She practically lives online.
I didn't much like the technician that came out. At the first knock on the door I ran and hid in the closet and refused to come out until an hour after he left. I think mom was a little worried. I've never hid that long before. And for about an hour she wasn't sure where i'd gone. But when I came out for supper I clawed her leg and it was business as usual.
It took a while, but I think i'm finally adjusted to living in a new place. It's nice here. Big windows I can stare out and birdwatch, central heating and air so the temperature is always just right, and this past weekend Uncle Vetch stayed over. He's not so bad.......for an annoying human. At least he doesn't try to squeeze me like Uncle Goat.
My stuff is all unpacked, but mom's still got boxes all over the place. Humans and their need to accumulate material possessions...all I need is my Tribble. And my litterbox, and my food and water dishes, and my Friskies, and my canned food, and my jingly ball toys, and my feather-bungee toy...
Ok, so maybe I don't have any room to talk. Still, my stuff fit into two boxes, and mom's took up a whole two rooms. So Hah!
And now mom's retaking control of the computer. Oh, well...it's time for my after-supper snack.

There are boxes all over my home. Mom won't let me play in them, but I still leap from box to box anyway. Boxes are almost as much fun as bags. Or maybe crawling under the blankets.
Still, nothing beats the Tribble.
I think the internet is gonna disappear soon. Mom's been on the phone talking about having it turned off. So no more journal entries for a while.
I know something's up, but i'm not sure what. Mom's sending me home with grandmom tonight. I don't want to leave! I wish I spoke human...then mom would have no excuse for doing things I don't like.

My home was invaded today.
First Uncle Vetch came over. He played with me for a while with a shoelace. And when i'm at my grandparents' house he sneaks me bits of ham when mom's not looking. Mom doesn't let me have ham. He's ok, I guess...for a human.
Then mom let two strangers in. I didn't like them much. I puffed my tail and made sure to keep an eye on them...from a distance. Luckily they didn't stay long. I was so upset about trespassers in my territory that I wouldn't let anyone touch me for a while.
But then Uncle Vetch brought out the shoelace again, so I got to play some more. I like playing with shoelaces. They're almost as much fun as my Tribble.
I heard mom talking about tossing out my Tribble. It's my most favoritist toy ever. I've had it since I was six weeks old. She can't just throw it away. She can't! I swear i'll bite her hard if she touches the Tribble. I will.
Things are calm again now. I tried to steal one of mom's peacock feathers, but she caught me before i'd gotten hold of one. One day, mom...one day. Your feathers won't be safe forever!

May as well introduce myself a little. I am Sonnenlicht. I am a DSH with red tabby fur and white markings. I have a pink nose and gold eyes. I'm only a bit over two years old, but mom says that translates to my being around 16 if I were human. I think i'm older than hat, but there's no reasoning with some people. Mom's a human. She just doesn't understand me at times.
Lately things have been kinda weird. Mom's been stressed. I can tell. I don't know what's going on, but she started putting our stuff in boxes. I love to jump in the boxes and hide. I don't think mom's too thrilled with me...she keeps shooing me out of the boxes. Parents. They won't let you have any fun.
It's supper time now. I have to go claw mom's leg and 'remind' her that it's time to eat. She gets so caught up doing whatever it is humans do all day that she sometimes forgets about my empty food dish. She keeps my dry food bowl full, but I'm in the mood for chicken with gravy. I really love the gravy.
Mew for now.
